Berlin Night Train to Copenhagen

Would anyone care to comment on this particular train ride? Would you recommend it for a father traveling with his teenage daughter (in a 2-person private compartment)? Safe, clean, restful etc.? Possible to reserve a compartment before leaving from the US?

Just to say that there is no direct night train from Berlin to Copenhagen. There is a night train from Berlin to Malmö, berlin-night-express which is run by as a private train, website: http://www.berlin-night-express.com/ . From Malmö, it's a short train ride (35 minutes) over the Oresund bridge to Copenhagen. According to the website, you can book tickets in the USA.

Tak, Christophe. The website's timetable has it arriving in Copenhagen H at 09.07 which is great as this would save time and thus allow us to get an early start in that wonderful city, which is the last stop on our trip. I suppose my real question is whether this particular train would be suitable for a father traveling with a 13 year old (safe and clean?). I would only take this train if we could have a private compartment with wc. And then there is the question of whether it is possible to actually get a good night's sleep. I have taken overnight trains before and have had mixed success, although I was much younger and not traveling with a child. At present my paternal instincts are forcing me to do due diligence on this train trip. We already have Eurail passes, so my other question would be whether we could reserve and pay the 39 euro supplement before we leave for Europe. I will contact them, but in the meantime I'm wondering whether I should even bother. My gut feeling is that it would be fun and save time as well, so we should give it a go.

Just be aware that the train does not go any further than Malmö. It's you connecting Oresund train that arrives in Copenhagen at 9.07, you will have to change at Malmö Central station. The sleeping cars used on this route are of type WL5, pictures and a diagram can be seen here: http://www.jarnvag.net/index.php/vagnguide/personvagnar-i-trafik/wl5 I have never tried this particular train, but I have tried other similar Swedish night train and they are fine, albeit a little old-fashioned (well that just adds to the charm, doesn't it?). As far as I can see, there are four compartments in each car with private restrooms, but I could imagine that these are not available at the passholder fare, you would have to ask the train company, though. The double sleeper compartments without restsrooms have a washbasín. I understand that you want a compartment for yourselves, but I don't see a major problem in not having a private restroom, it's no worse than using the lav at a restaurant. You should know that the train is shunted onto the Sassnitz-Trelleborg ferry for the 4 hour crossing, one of the few places in the world where this still happens.

Thanks again, Christophe. Say, you wouldn't have any personal tips on places to go, things to so, etc. in Copenhagen or its environs, would you? Not the usual stuff in guidebooks, but personal, little favorites not usually found in books and articles. Bear in mind I will have a 13 year old child with me. Anything spring to mind?

I've taken this train and it's your typical overnight train ride. Clean and safe. Much of the "ride" is on the ferry across the Baltic so you can actually get some sleep without the bump and grind of most overnight trains. There is no reason why you couldn't do it with your daughter even if you share a couchette with 2-3 other people. It'll probably be an adventure for her.
