On our trip to Ireland in September, we're planning on staying overnight in Belfast in order to catch the 7:30 am ferry to Stranraer. Our friend has a car & will drop us off at the terminal. Any suggestions for a hotel or B&B in the area would be appreciated.

I think you might have a problem trying to find what you're seeking. The Stranraer ferry dock is way down the channel almost to the head of the bay. That whole area is industrial/commercial with not much to recommend it for an overnight stay.
Most of the B&Bs seem to be clustered around Queen's University and Lisburn Road. It's probably a good twenty-minute drive -- more in morning traffic.
Hi Dar, I have stayed in these three Belfast hotels:
Good - Holiday Inn Express,
Better - Benedicts Hotel (ask for a quiet room),
Best - Europa Hotel (across from "The Crown. pub)
All three are about 15-20 minutes to the port.
They are all fine choices. Breakfast included. If you are staying over night in Stranraer do yourself a favor and take the bus to Portpatrick (15 minutes). It's a not so well known secret. Your in for a treat! Enjoy
