We'll be taking a two week trip in July, arriving in Belfast and leaving from Shannon. There are 6 of us - all adults/teenagers. Is it better to rent a single vehicle or two different vehicles? Are the vans the car agencies have large enough to accommodate this number of people yet be safe on Ireland's narrow roads?

Six adults and their luggage in one vehicle sounds like an awfully tight squeeze to me. I'd suggest two smaller vehicles with room for the luggage.

I've thought about doing a similar trip next year. My question is, is there a rental surcharge for picking up in one country (N. Ireland) and dropping off in another (Republic of Ireland)?
