Belfast--Is it worth it?

I'll be in Ireland for 10 days at the end of this month. I originally planned on taking a day trip to Belfast, but I am now rethinking that plan. Are things better there since the attacks that kind of rekindled the old fighting a few months back, or should I take the "better safe than sorry" mentality and find another day trip location? Those of you who have gone, is it even worth spending one of my days in Belfast?

Even at the height of the troubles there has never been an American injured in Belfast. It definitely is worth a day trip, or longer. The black taxi tour itself is worth it and if you are taking the train from Dublin the ride is very scenic.
I would certainly rather go to Belfast than areas in St. Louis or Kansas City.

Belfast is absolutely worth spending one of your days in. She takes herself a little more seriously than does Dublin but worth the time.

Yes, I definitely think you should go to Belfast. I was there in early June and found it very interesting. Definitely go on the black cab tour to see the murals, plus (just until September, I believe) you can tour the historic Crumlin Road Gaol, which closed in 1996. Belfast is interesting in that it seems like a city that is trying to redevelop and get ready for tourists, but isn't quite there yet so it seems more "real" than some other places. I also suggest extending your trip a bit farther north to the coast in County Antrim (where the Giant's Causeway is), which is beautiful.

I live in Northern Ireland for 3 years and we used to go into Belfast nearly every weekend. For a day trip I would say go for it. Not sure where you will be staying but its only a 2 hour train ride to Dublin if that takes your fancy.
You can do all the aforementioned tours of the murals and the troubles but there is also the downtown core with city hall plus opposite the Europa Hotel [once the most bombed hotel in Europe!!] is Belfasts oldest pub. Can't remember the name right now but I have had a few pints there in the past and its a good place to see. You could easily find lots to do to fill a day in Belfast.
Certainly wouldnt worry about the attacks. I was with the military at the time when I lived there and that was at the height of the troubles, scary yes, worrying yes, but nowadays...people want peace more than violence..

Definitely worth a visit. The Black Taxi Tour is a must. The Crown Bar is the old pub, over the road from the Europa Hotel. Antrim Coast is also a must do
