Am interested if anyone knows a good place to buy bottled beer in London, other than the obvious grocery stores. are there any speciality stores that have a good ion? I am looking for beer from the UK, not any European brews. Thanks!
Dave Have a look at this article. The comments are also worth reading. http://www.timeout.com/london/bars/features/7940/London-s_best_beer_shops.html Cheers Alan
I am a beer afficiando also and always find what I want in the large stores. I prefer to drink it draft in the pub, where it is best, but to take back to the room I always found it at the stores. Honestly, the UK beers are better on tap to me. Some of the best bottled beer is German for my taste. When in the UK though - you drink UK beer. It is one of the few beers I can drink warm (not as cold). I drank a lot of it when I visited there in 1971 while in college. Double Diamond was my favorite beer at that time and I drank it every night for a month. They don't make it any more. Sad.....
Thanks - Bill
Thanks for your replies, but those places are all too far away to be practical. Looks like I'll just buy from the local Waitrose or Sainsburys.
Dave It's worth keeping your eyes open for local off licences near where you are. They can have a better range than the big supermarkets. Here in Brighton for example there are a couple that do a huge range of beers. Have a good trip. Alan
'Off license' means not associated with a particular brewery, if I recall correctly. I know most pubs in London are associated with Fullers or Smiths, so at a Smiths pub you won't find any London Pride Ale, for example. But a beer retail store that is off license?
"Off licence" has nothing to do with ties to a brewery, that's a "free house". "Off licence" means a shop licenced only to sell alcohol to be drunk OFF the premises, and not inside.
Dave, you are wrong......off licence means that a shop sells alcohol to take away, not to be drank there. Has nothing to do with pubs.
