Baths in Baths

Is it worth it to go to the Thermae Bath Spa while in Bath? Rick gives it kind of a mediocre review...what has been your experience? Or is there a better one? He mentions the Cross Bath--anyone have an experience there? thanks for your help... We will be in Bath for three days--one day spent driving to Stonehedge, Glastonbury and Wells--
we are in count down mode...15 days to go!!

When the baths were being rebuilt my wife and I strongly considered having a go when it opened as we enjoy very much the thermal baths in Germany and other European countries. After it opened we got ready then saw the prices they were charging. I'd never seen such high prices. I'm afraid we never went so I can't directly answer your questions. Sorry.

We went for our honeymoon, but I don't have much experience in spas so it's difficult to make a comparison. My wife is a regular spa-goer and I know she enjoyed it. My best guess is that if you are a hard-core spa person, you might find it a bit dull. The pools weren't very hot, but they were warm and comfortable. The various scented steam rooms were interesting but not too exciting. We did like the roof top pool which was pleasurable and gave a terrific view of the city of Bath. We went in evening and it wasn't crowded. I'm more of an introvert and very modest than some, so I found the swimsuit-required spa to be very comfortable. We did a couple's massage (it was my first massage) and again they made the whole experience very easy and relaxed. We had taken the Rick Steves' advice and begun our Britain trip by flying to Gatwick, train to Bath, and beginning our trip there. So after a long flight, two train transfers, and jet lag, having a pampered evening to unwind was just what the doctor ordered. It wasn't cheap, but if I was in Bath again, I think I'd go back. Rick would rather be stripped naked, boiled alive, and beaten by a big, Germanic woman. So tastes vary. : )
