Bathroom availability in Scotland & Ireland

My husband & I are doing a 10-day self-drive tour of Scotland & Ireland in September, with hotel stays in Edinburgh & Dublin and b&bs for the majority of our trip. What is the availability of bathrooms on routes through County Clare, for example or the Scotland Highlands? Any info/tips appreciated.

TIs, attractions, gas stations. Every once in a while a public municipal one which may or may not be gratis.

Pubs and eateries are for customer use only and usually signed accordingly.

In the Scotland Highlands we have used the space behind trees and bushes a number of times.

There are public bathroom in Scotland in both the lowlands and the highlands. Some are in small towns. Some are in the parks and recreation areas, and sometimes you're in the heather (not so many trees in the highlands.) The only time I needed the heather was when I was off hiking in the countryside. We found many gas station/convenience stores in Ireland, much the same as in the US except much cleaner. They all had toilets.
In Scotland, we used restaurants, pubs, and sometimes public toilets in the towns.

Pubs abound in Ireland, and I've been told that they are free.
However, I still buy a drink or snack. Haven't been to the Highlands, but will next month. My Scottish friend advised me to not pass up a pub or café, as potty stops are few and far between.
