Bath/London

After spending some time in Scotland in early August, I will be traveling to London...on the way I want to see Bath, Glastonbury, Stratford, Cotswolds and Stonehenge/Avebury...was thinking of 2 nights in Bath and doing days trips to these places and then 3 nights in London to see London for my first time. Any thoughts? Thanks so much - this sight is a gem! Betsy

1 day for Bath, 1 day for Cotswolds day trip from Bath, and 1 day for bus day trips of other areas. That's 3 days. I think those are minimums so you'll probably need 3 nights in Bath instead of 2. And 3 nights in London is barely enough to scratch the surface, that would be the absolute minimum time for London.

Hi Betsy,

I have to agree with Kent. If Bath and the surrounding area is on your "bucket list" then it definitely deserves three full days.

Three days in London will leave you wanting more but if that's all the time you have than 3 days is better than nothing. I would suggest making a "must see" list and while in London keep reminding yourself that you will be back.

I would also recommend taking one of the two double decker bus tours of the city that RS lists in his book. This tour will give you a great overview of all the sites and help you get your bearings on your first trip to London.

On our recent trip we had two friends with us that had never been and to save valuable sightseeing time we packed a sack lunch, jumped on the bus at Picadilly Circus and ate while it made it's way around London. It worked out great and our friends decided what they wanted to go back and see at greater depth. Just an idea.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the input! Maybe I could squeeze another day in London as I haven't bought my ticket yet.

Squeeze another day in London. One never has enough days...My husband and I stayed 3 nights then ended our trip for another 2 nights. We needed at least a week.
Make the effort to stay another night. Bath is wonderful. Try to go to an evensong or an afternoon concert at the Cathedral. The music was so moving it brought us to tears. It was very relaxing and the acoustics for the pipe organ were magnificent.
We drove to Avebury and Stonehenge and prefer Avebury and did not allow enough time to wander. (We were on our way from London to Bath). Have fun choosing which of the towns you want to visit in the Cotswolds. We could have stayed two weeks in that area.

Spend 2 nights in Bath. Use one day to tour Bath, which is easy to get around. Lots within walking distance, also available the Hop on, Hop off bus tour to see more. Use another day to tour with MadMax. Excellent tour compnay offering 2 different tours. One of the Cotswolds and one of Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock, & Castle Coombs. We did the later last May and thought we got to see a lot in just the right amount of time. We will be back in May again to do the Cotswold full day tour. Bath is worth the time. Check out MadMax at Trip Advisor and you'll see many good reviews. They will help you make the most out of your time.

I just figured out why, for me, the Cotswolds needs time. I always want to get a closer look. Driving thru some of the cute villages is not as good as walking thru them, and a bus tour is out of the question. eg. Bourton-on-the-Water has a mineature village of itself, which has a mineature village of itself..
