I tried searching for this in the archives but was not able to find anything. Have just booked a room at this hotel in London for 3 nights in August. Does anyone have any experience with this hotel? The website looks interesting and the reviews on TA were uniformly good. Price was decent too for London. Thanks.
Gets generally good reviews for an economy place. Try Tripadvisor.
We stayed in the Kensington Base2Stay in September 2010 and enjoyed our stay. It is close to Earls Court tube station so it is very convenient. Our room was on the lowest floor so pedestrians were walking by our windows so we kept our drapes closed much of the time. You might want to request a room on a higher floor. The room was great and we really appreciated the refrigerator/sink/microwave for breakfast, tea and coffee. I would definitely stay there again.
(Just for clarity - the few rooms mentioned have magic mirror glass - you can see out but no-one can see in!). The hotel is pretty full throughout the year, so it's good to hear you've booked early - everyone loves the place - even us travel journalists! It's a great "find" - enjoy your stay in London and let me know if I can help further, please. Alun Hill, MCIJ
I was there from 6-11 May and it was nice. I liked the fact it was in a quiet area away from the crowds. We had a room on the ground floor (G-16?). Like most rooms in London it was small but ours had a hot water maker, microwave, some dishes and a mini-fridge. Vending prices were reasonable and movies were only about $3-4. Internet was free. The place was clean. I thought the toiletries were severely lacking (no box of tissues, one small bottle of shampoo/cleaning liquid). The walk to Earls Court was easy. Maybe 3 minutes and from there you have easy access to District and Piccadilly lines. Plenty of restaurants within 5 minutes or so. A cab ride from Victoria to Base2Stay runs around $20-30 depending on traffic. Just as a comparison we stayed 2 nights at the Hyatt Churchill near Bond/Oxford street. Obviously a very high end and very nice hotel. My problem with the Hyatt was its location. WAY TOO CROWDED on the streets. Unless you are a shopaholic I wouldn't stay in that area. Also I didn't think the Central line was as useful and the District/Piccadilly lines for a tourist.
Thanks for the encouraging responses. I've booked several hotels in Europe through TA and never had a bad one yet. We're looking forward to our time in London without worrying about the accommodations.
