I am planning my husband and my belated honeymonn / 1st anniversary in Ireland at the end of October, and saw some disturbing traval news (see link below. copy/paste in new browser) about the water quality in Galway. :( A travel site did a piece and entitled it "Don't Go There"... Galway was included as #5. This doesn't necessarily change our plans to spend 2 nights there, maybe just make us more cautious, but I'd like some opinions. http://www.bing.com/travel/content/search?q=Don't+Go+There%3a+Galway%2c+Ireland&FORM=RQTRAV Thanks!
At this time..no problems with the water quality in Galway. They have had problems in the past, most notable in March 2007 with a suspected outbreak of Cryptosporidiosis. In 2008 there was a problem with high lead - see link http://www.edie.net/news/news_story.asp?id=15358&channel=0&title=Galway+water+contaminated+with+lead I tend to drink bottled water when I visit Galway city..because I do not care for the taste. I always find it to have a sulfur flavour, but that could just be me. I certainly would not put off visiting the area though.
I was there(Galway) in April of '07 and it was no big deal. Just had to brush my teeth using bottled water and drank nothing but bottled water and beer. Not really a problem, although when taking a shower I did not get my head wet.
