Has anyone purchased lodging vouchers while traveling in Ireland, and if so was it a good idea?
Many B&B's will not accept vouchers, especially during the busy season when they can get cash in hand. The only people who seem to profit from vouchers are the ones selling them.
Vouchers are not recommended. Many B&B's accept only cash.
I talked with a B&B owner on our first trip to Ireland about vouchers. She told me that the owners are of two minds about them. They prefer cash because it takes so long to get reimbursed by the voucher people, but if they don't accept them, they lose a lot of business, particularly in the winter when the better deals are available for travelers. B&Bs listed in the directories provided by the Irish Tourism board indicate whether they accept them or not.
That being said, we had no problem using them with the exception of being asked to pay extra (in cash) when we had an en suite room. We were not told this would happen.
