Hello,
My husband and I are traveling through Ireland for 10 days and I need advice on where to stay. I ordered the RS Ireland 2008 online and it has been lost in the mail, so I am out of luck b/c currently in south portugal and don't have access to getting a book. Here is where we will be traveling: Kinsale, Kenmare, Dingle, Galway, Westport, Portrush, and Dublin. We are newly married and on a tight budget. My husband's birthday will be while we are in Westport, so I may be willing to spend a bit more here. I've tried looking online but everything seems so expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Jenny,
If you have Internet access a couple of options would be to check the "Graffiti Wall" on this site for recommendations or "Trip Advisor." You also might be able to find a guidebook once you arrive in Ireland. A budget option listed in Rick's Ireland book in Westport is Abbeywood House Hostel at www.abbeywoodhouse.com
Good luck!
Sharon
Galway - Four Seasons B&B - 23 College Road (recommended in RS Guidebook - stayed here several times, clean, quiet, excellent location, reasonable prices, helpful hosts):

Dublin - Grafton Guesthouse - 26-27 South Great George's Street (clean, rate includes full breakfast, central Dublin, easy walking to nearly all sights and Temple Bar area):

Portrush - Atlantic View Guesthouse - 103 Eglinton Street (clean, quiet, includes full breakfast, rooms overlooking ocean and beach, great location in center of town):

Sure someone else can recommend a birthday splurge hotel for Westport.
Jenny,
I just returned from two weeks in Ireland, and stayed in B&B's the whole time. We paid 70-80 Euros a night for a double room at each of these locations. They all had private bath except for the Galway B&B.
Dublin: Ophira House. This is in Dun Laoghaire, a suburb south of Dublin and a short 15 minute train ride into the city center. John and Cathy are very welcoming, and if they're full they should be able to help you find a room at one of the many other B&Bs in Dun Laoghaire. Recommended by Rick.
Kinsale: Harbour Hill Farm. A lovely B&B that's a 5 minute drive from Kinsale.
Dingle: Milestone House. This B&B is recommended by Rick and is popular among readers here on the site. Barbara and Michael make sure you have everything you need to enjoy Dingle. If they're full, they can help you find a good room elsewhere.
Galway: Rossa B&B. As mentioned above, the rooms here do not include private bath. But there are only three guest rooms, so the bathrooms are not usually crowded; we never had to wait to use it. It's very close to Eyre Sq. in the city center, but is off on a side street and very quiet at night.
Bed and Breakfast Ireland is a site I used while planning. You should be able to find good, cheap places there.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip!
You might try imagineireland.com for a house rental.........if nothing else, the website is like a trip before the trip.......
we had so much fun at the house we rented........near ADARE.
We just returned from 2 weeks in Ireland and had wonderful experiences at these B&B's.
Kinsale: Woodlands House B&B,
Kenmare: Abbey Court B&B( we stayed in the very nice 2 bdrm apartment above the garage which might be more than you need),
Dingle Lighthouse B&B,
Galway: Petra house B&B.
Most ran 40-45 Euros person.
In Portrush, I recently stayed at the Abercorn Guesthouse just off the main route, and its a good value. The owner is quite nice and even did my laundry for me (I just had a few things so it was no big deal, don't know if she'd do it for a big washing).
In Dublin, you might look into staying at Trinity College. It's definitely budget accomodations, but if you're there for just a night or two its not bad, and it comes with a big buffet breakfast. You can't beat the location.
Jenny,
I've stayed at a great B&B outside Kenmare in Kilgarvan--very reasonable, 30Euros/person, http://www.birchwood-kilgarvan.com/.
Both times I was in Dingle, I stayed at Walsh's Townhouse--very nice rooms, great breakfast and owners, http://www.walshstownhouse.com/index.php?page=home. We were doing vouchers through a package, so I'm not sure how much the rooms are and it's not on the website. It's convenient to everything, though it is across the street from a pub, so it can be a little loud. It was a Rick rec.
Have fun!
What sort of a budget per person per night are you looking for in Ireland?
