B&B's in Galway

We are having a hard time finding a good B&B in Galway that is open for our dates. We don't have a car and are doing day tours to Cliffs of Moher and Aran Islands etc. We would like to have easy access by foot or bus in evening from center city where we would like to somewhat enjoy the nightlife after our tours get back. Is Salthill too far a walk say if its raining or if its late at night or in the morning when we want to get to the bus tours. Thank you

Joan, Salthill is like a suburb of Galway - if you select a B&B in Salthill try to get as close to the oceanfront promenade as possible. Then you'll have the choice of walking (approx. 20-30 minutes) or catching one of the frequent city buses that travel along the promenade into town. Another good option is the Jury's Inn, located adjacent to downtown and next to all the action. Don't worry about the printed prices in Rick's book - check their website, they probably have a special going.

We stayed in Salthill last month. No reservation ahead of time, we just went to the waterfront where there was a line of B&B's. We went to the first one and asked to see the rooms. We decided to check the next one before making a decision and I am glad we did. Much nicer for the same money. It was an easy walk to the Galway city center. I think it took about 10 - 15 minutes. The further into Salthill you go the further you will be from the city center. If you are interested in the name of the place we stayed just PM me and I will try to locate the card they gave me. Have a great trip!

Did you try the Four Seasons B&B on College Road in Galway? It's in the RS Ireland Guide and is quite good. You do not need a car to stay there. It is about a 10 minute walk from the B&B to Eyre Square, the train/bus station and the tourist information office. Also an easy walk or very short taxi ride to pubs and nightlife.

Salthill is a longer walk, but depending on how much you are used to walking at home, it's still doable. Plenty of taxis at night in Galway, but you might need your Salthill B&B to call for one in the morning if you need to catch an early tour.

I did e-mail Four Seasons along with some others a few days ago and have not heard back. I'm still hoping.

Thank you

Check any of the group Rick recommends on College Rd. We called one and they had no room but immediately told us the name of a place (also in Rick's book) that did. We called and made reservations.

Interesting story:
We called from our Irish cell phone. My wife spoke to owner. I prompted her to ask if breakfast and wireless were included and if they had parking. After the third question, the owner said in his thick Irish accent "...and we have doors and windows too!"

Joan, we are going to Galway in September and we've chosen Devondell B&B in Salthill. Click for reviews. It was #2 on TripAdvisor and sounds charming. It's about 90 Euro/night. We can't wait! In reference to your comment about bus tours, four of the bus tours we've considered said they pick up at the Salthill Tourist Office before heading to Galway...
