We're planning a trip to England in late June-early July and hope to stay 3-4 days in Cornwall. Is it possible at that time of year to arrange B&B stays as we go, or should we really nail down reservations soon? I'm hesitant to make reservations so far in advance when most B&Bs seem to require an at least partially nonrefundable deposit--but we don't want to be stuck without a place to stay. Any advice?
Don't worry about it...just check in with a Tourist Information Office...and they can book you right there. Your B & B landlord/lady that night can usual refer you to a friend at your next stop. If you have a car you can stay just out of town at a family farm or a carriage house on an estate. We just gave them our price range...prefer non-smoking, etc. We didn't care about Bath en suite because often times we were the only guests so got a really nice big tub and shower in a room on the hall to ourselves.
You're going to see slews of them along the way. Stop in. If you like it, stay. If you don't go another mile (or another block or next door). There's no need for reservations and you'll probably wind up cheaper by not worrying about it.
Hi Try The Ednovean Farm luxury Bed and Breakfast Cornwall they are quaint and very attentive. the owners are very nice. They have a website www.ednoveanfarm.co.uk I would book in advance to make sure you get the location you want. Good Luck and enjoy your trip!

This board does not agree about the issue of advance reservations. I suggest the following. If you are traveling and only want a bed for one night before you travel on then it may be OK to take B&Bs you find 'on the spot.' Alternately, if you are planning 3-4 days in one place then the location is important and so is the comfort of the room you will be using. True enough, there are lots of B&Bs in Cornwall and there is almost no chance that you will have to sleep in the car. That said, I would pick an ideal spot with a great room, and I would reserve ahead using a credit card. Often you can cancel until just a day or two before the stay is to begin.
Agree with George - there's something to be said for knowing where you will be staying and not wasting valuable travel time searching. Most of the B&B's we stay in are unique and therefore very small (2-3 rooms). The chances of getting into one of these places is virtually nil if you fly by the seat of your pants. Now if you're just looking for a place to sleep, then you willl be O.K. with the plan you've outlined. Recommended Cornwall B&B: Downs Farm B&B in St. Buryan, just outside of Penzance....two beautiful rooms, gracious hosts, friendly atmosphere.
