B&B Recommendations for England and Scotland

We recently returned from a trip to the UK and stayed at two different B&Bs that we would like to highly recommend. Both were very comfortable and the owners were extremely friendly and personable. We stayed for four nights with Bill and Eileen Mathieson at Braeside Cottage in Fauldhouse, Scotland. Fauldhouse is almost exactly halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow so it makes a great location for people who may want to visit both cities but who would like to have a more rural setting for sleeping. I am bothered by street noises at night and staying at Braeside Cottage instead of in a big city was ideal for us because I had no noise from outside to disturb sleep at night and it was just a short train ride into the city to explore. Bill and Eileen could not have been more helpful or friendly and the room they provided was clean, comfortable, and supplied with modern conveniences. Bill is the cook and will custom make the breakfast you desire, including the massive Scottish breakfast if you want it. You can read more about their bed and breakfast at their website www.braesidecottage.com. We traveled by train from Scotland to the Lake District of England and stayed at Pitcairn House in Keswick which is owned and run by Heather and Steve. They also were very helpful and friendly and served a very delicious and healthy breakfast. The room again was very clean and was equipped with all we needed for a wonderful stay. We would highly recommend both of these inns.

Would you consider it a kid-friendly B&B based on the personality of the owners?

Definitely! Bill and Eileen have a little grandchild who visits now and then and they are wonderful grandparents. Their home is a warm friendly environment.
