I am looking for a quiet special B & B in the Lake District for a special birthday on our trip to England. Any suggestions
Ellergil House is wonderful I stayed there in Oct 2006 in Lake District. Walk to town super clean and friendly hosts, great brfast. Also eat at pub the Pheasant for a nice lunch birthday celebration. Duck was very tasty and reasonable at $19 equiv. all is in Ricks guidebook.
We stayed at the Parkfield House in Keswick. I would highly recommend it. The owners are wonderful. It's listed in Rick's book.
Have to second Parkfield in Keswick. Stayed there last year and it was great. I was on the Best of Britain tour. If you have free time, you need to go to the Theatre by the Lake. http://www.theatrebythelake.com/. The plays are fun and you will feel very local. If you are into hiking and stone circles there is a great (though somewhat long) hike to the Castlerigg Stone Circle. Actually you can drive almost up to it, but the hike made it special. Go at sunset - it is beautiful. Or just hike and boat the lake.
I would look up farmstaysuk.co.uk I found some great B&B's on some working and not farms homes.
