Stephen, I'd suggest checking the RS England Guidebook. As I recall, there are Hotel and B&B listings for Oxford. You should be able to find a reasonably current copy at your local Library or larger Book Stores. Most small Hotels also provide breakfast, so they're also essentially a "B&B".

We've traveled in Oxford several times but don't usually stay overnight. The one time we did, we stayed in a small hotel with breakfast that I would not stay in again. I do not recommend the Bath Place Hotel at 4 Bath Place in Oxford. We stayed there in spite of a few poor reviews on Tripadvisor because the location downtown was very good, the pictures looked charming, and there seemed enough good reviews to counteract the poor ones. But it turned out to be rundown, dirty, noisy and uncomfortable. I realize this does not help you find a place, but perhaps it will help you to eliminate one. One bit of advice: If you look on Tripadvisor for recommendations, beware of the professional pictures provided by the hotel. I've found that many hotels and B&Bs do not live up to those pics. Rely more on the photos provided by actual travelers.

We stayed here in the summer of 2009 for 3 or 4 nights. http://www.oxfordcity.co.uk/accom/newton/ and found it very good. It is excellently located and in easy walk of everything. It is on a main road, so there can be some road noise but we did not find that a problem. It is about a 5 minute walk to a great pub by the river - on right hand side as you head into the city. And the other side of the river from the pub is a great curry restaurant. Caveat - this was over 2 years ago so things may have changed.

thank you all for commenting and helping me. I'm thinking of the newton house! RS is such an inspiration for travel.
