No, i don't have a Rick London book at hand...just FRANCE and EASTERN EUROPE..My YWCA days are over and i no longer find it fun to tube to the suburbs..Just looking for a low budget place for a 3day weekend while i see as many plays as possible.
If you want to be close to Theatreland, it has to be Bloomsbury.
There's lots of B&Bs in Bloomsbury. From feedback I've had most of the best ones seem to be around Gower Street. Bloomsbury is also famous for some real rat-holes near Russel Square Tube Station.
If you're looking at low budget remember: in London you get what you pay for and not an ounce more.

If you know your venues you can do a hotel search here:

Or if most of your theatres are in the West End I'd go for the basic but cheap
Easy Hotel. http://studenttravel.about.com/od/studentlodging/a/easyhotel.htm
London theatre is fabulous. Have fun.
Two B&Bs in Bloomsbury that get excellent reviews in the Lonely Planet London guidebook are the Arosfa Hotel and the Arran House Hotel. In addition to its regular rooms, the Arran House Hotel has some dorm-type rooms at hostel-like prices.
