We have purchased paintings from artists who painted/sketched various historic sites and sold their paintings directly to buyers/tourists in several European cities. While in Ireland I did not notice artists who did this. Has anyone seen artists painting historic sites in Ireland. If so, where?

Where in Ireland? There's an art market just outside of Merrion Square in Dublin. Every Sunday the artists set up their works along the perimeter of the fence outside of the square. Check merrionsquareart.com for information and a list of specific links to the artists which shows some of their works. Also, loads of small art galleries in Dublin. There are also a number of art galleries in Galway. Not sure how many paintings are of "historic sites", but there's lots of landscapes depicting the countryside of Western Ireland and the area around The Burren.

Thanks. I checked the web site and this is what I was looking for. We hope to visit the the artist's market while in Dublin.
