I'll be joining a RS tour in Dublin on July 1, 2012; traveling alone, and wondering if I should plan on arriving the day before, or would arrival in Dublin the morning of the tour be alright. The tours don't start until around 5, and I hate paying an extra $200. for the hotel an extra night, but don't want to fight jet lag either. Suggestions???
YOu've asked for an opinion and I'll share mine. Have taken two RS tours, Florence and Istanbul. Both times arrived a day before. Enjoy traveling solo and for me, arriving a day early helps me adapt and adjust to the lay of the land. I also stay somewhere OTHER than the RS hotel. Then again that's just me. YOU need to decide what the payoff is for you if you arrive a day ahead.
If the RS tours still stay at the Harding Hotel you can certainly rent a room there for a lot less then $200. My advise would be to get there at least one day early.
Cheryl, I've taken that tour and would strongly recommend arriving at least one day early! You'll need that time to both recover from jet lag as well as cover any sights that you want to see that aren't covered on the tour. I felt that the extra couple of nights in the Hotel was well worth the cost, and it's not really all that much considering the overall cost of the tour. It's likely that you'll be staying in the Harding Hotel, which is a convenient location for walking to the Temple Bar area. I used a Taxi from the airport to the Hotel. Do you know yet who your Guide is? In any case, you're going to have a FANTASTIC trip! Happy travels!
Really appreciate all the helpful hints and suggestions. We're staying at Buswell's Hotel, and I'll plan on arriving at least one day early. I'm sure it will be a grand adventure. Thanks again.
Bushwell's is in a great location, lots to see and do and only a ten minute, or less, walk to any of them. Be sure and visit the National Museum on Kildare street, just down the street from your hotel.
