Any ideas what to do with our luggage? Our hotel is a Travelodge and they absolutely no luggage storage. We would like to go to Legoland right away and I know they have lockers but don't know if they are big enough. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Karen, How are you getting to Legoland? I've never been, but their website suggested there are direct trains from Waterloo and Paddington stations. If you are first entering London from Gatwick, there are left luggage facilities at both these train stations. I'm afraid I don't know enough about Legoland or the rail connections to it to know whether there is a more direct route from the airport straight to Legoland from another station that has baggage storage. Gatwick itself may have left luggage facilities, too. My experience with left luggage places in Britain is that the cost adds up quickly. Pack efficiently and check as few pieces as possible. The 8 pounds per bag (or so) really becomes a huge expense when you've checked 3 or 4 items.
They list an email address; I suggest sending an email. AND if you like the answer, PRINT the email and bring it with you...Be as specific as possible in your request - dimensions of luggage in cm and in, number of pieces, etc.
Thank you! We are arriving this morning and these ideas help. Thank you for taking time to answer
karen,
One option would be to take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria, and leave your luggage there for a few hours.
Have a look at the "Left Luggage" section at * www.networkrail.co.uk/aspx/7143.aspx * (cut & paste the link inside the asterisks).
I've never been to Legoland, but it appears the easiest train route is from London Paddington to Windsor & Eton Central, via Slough on the First Great Western OR from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside via South West Trains. Travel from London Victoria to either of those stations via The Tube.
You probably won't be clear of the airport and at London Victoria until at least 11:00. One thing I'd probably try under the same circumstances would be to ring the Hotel prior to departing LGW and find out if your room is available. If the previous tenant checked-out early, the room may be ready. That way you wouldn't have to pay for Left Luggage facilities.
Happy travels!
Karen: Did you know that Legoland is near to Heathrow not Gatwick. You could leave your luggage at connecting train station if your hotel is in London or if near Legoland leave it at Heathrow.
