I've used mostly VRBO but there are several other sites for U.K. rentals (or holiday lets as they say). On my recent excursion to London I used www.airbnb.com and was very pleased with the accommodations. Have been to London many times so I knew the areas where I wanted to stay. Both places and hosts were stellar. Worth a look.

We've done well with homeaway.com in Paris and in US, I'd also use it in England if I were looking there.
