Our family of 4 is planning a vacation to London and Paris starting mid June 2012. I looked at 'Citadiens' but was wondering if someone had another site like the one I found for Paris (vacationsinparis) where the rates could be a bit lower. Seven days in London and 8 days in Paris can get a little bit pricey.... Also, are there any castles near London where to stay? Have not checked out any pricing, so I might be in for a surprise.... Thanks so much in advance for your advice.

Hi Alina, You might try Coach House Rentals in London:
http://www.rentals.chslondon.com/ We stayed in one of their flats last September and were very happy. Much cheaper than 2 hotel rooms, and I think a bit less expensive than Citadines too. Have a great time!

There are apartments at Hampton Court that can be rented. Not sure the requirements or whether they are ever available.

Both cities are expensive, always have been. Check out airbnb.com, vrbo.com, http://www.frasershospitality.com/, http://www.absoluteaccommodations.com/, and http://www.shortstay-london.com/ and http://gowithit.co.uk/ for London, airbnb.com, http://www.parisbestlodge.com/, http://feelslikehomeinparis.com/. Might find something on these websites that meets your criteria.

The London School of Econmics rents out spare dorm rooms and apartments to tourists. The apartments are available all year (when not booked up). Check out their website. www.lsetopfloor.co.uk/ They have multiple central London locations. The rates are excellent. If the site shows no availablity, call or email as their site sometimes has problems. In addition to the apartment's facilities, you get access to student services like the laundry and game/tv room (lounge).
