We are going to Italy for our honeymoon but we are going to be spending about 5hrs at London Heathrow in between flights.
Anything worth seen close to the airport?
any suggestions would be great =)
Five hours doesn't give you much time, really. Heathrow is a huge airport. Lots of shops, resturants, etc. If you don't have lounge priveleges with any of the airlines, you can purchase a day pass. Some offer showers, free lunch, snacks, etc. BA has an especially nice lounge. I wouldn't risk a trip to Windsor (even though I LOVE it) with your timeline. You need to allow at least 2+ hours for check-in and security at Heathrow. And the walks to some of the gates take a good 15 min. or more. I'd window shop, eat a leisurely meal and maybe shower.
Kew Gardens, you must see it to believe it, is just down the road about 15 minutes. A magnificent collection.
Windsor is a 15 minute taxi ride from Heathrow. It probably would be at least 45 minutes before you get out of the airport, 15 minute taxi ride to Windsor, two hours in Windsor, then 15 minutes that would give you give you 1 hr 45 minutes to go back thru security and get to your gate. Of course this all depends on if your plane lands on time.
Also the roads around Heathrow can get very congested so you run the riisk of getting caught up in a traffic jam. My blood pressure would not cope!
