Anyone stayed close to Albany Street in Edinburgh? Transportation Options?

Is Albany Street in a good location to see all the sights? We found a good deal at the Albany Ballantrae hotel and it seems close to everything but is hard to tell from the site. We mostly want to see the royal mile in the day and go to bars etc at night and wont have a rental car.

How far is this from the airport and what is the best/cheapest way to get to the hotel from there? Thank you!

It looks like it's pretty close to everything. If you go to maps.google.com and copy and paste in these coordinates (55.957373,-3.189584) you'll end up at your hotel. Switch on the satellite view, and you'll get a good look at the neighbourhood. You can use the "Get Directions" function to see the walking distance and directions to various sites. From your hotel, up the Royal Mile to the entrance to Edinburgh castle seems to be about a mile.

Edinburgh castle is at the very end of the royal mile, right? So I'm assuming total walking is a mile of interesting things to see and do along the royal mile and not a mile walking just to start out our day right? Is there a good/realtively inexpensive bus system there in case of bad weather (in early June)?

Albany Street is down the hill from New Town and looks like a terrific location. I've stayed further down the hill and had no trouble getting up to the sights. You may find that you want to catch a bus up the hill to The Royal Mile and then walk down. It looks great to me.

Oh my gosh Norm, that is the coolest thing EVER. I just looked up our hotel in Edinburgh and now I have an idea what the neighborhood looks like. The streets in Edinburgh are so uniquely laid out! Now I understand why the name of the street we're staying on is "Eglinton Crescent"!
