Hi all Does anyone know any 24hr internet cafes near Victoria Station? If the Stanley Cup Final goes to Game 7, I need to watch it. I arrive at the airport and get into London city centre by 2am in the morning. I don't check-in in my room til the afternoon. thanks, Marlene CANUCKS FAN!!
In these days of portable tablets and netbooks, and free wifi in many places Internet cafes have been disappearing like dinosaurs. There used to be a huge Easy one near Victoria but I don't know if it is still there. Have you arranged for how you will arrive at 0200? That's well after the Underground has gone to bed? Gatwick Express may have a few trains running, I think Heathrow Express shuts down at some time.
Marlene, As Nigel mentioned, that's not the best time to be arriving in London, as the transportation from the airports may be "limited". Which airport are you arriving at? You can check www.easyinternetcafe.com for details on Internet access. It's not likely that you'll find one that operates on a 24-hour basis. If you're absolutely intent on having net access to watch the game, your best bet may be to "splurge" and arrange one night at the www.georgianhousehotel.co.uk as they offer 24-hour internet access with the cost of the room. It's located in the Victoria Station area. Be sure to tell them that you'll be arriving late! Of course that means travelling with a Netbook or Laptop and possibly a cable (the "basic rooms" appear to have Wi-Fi access but other rooms require a cable). They have a Lobby computer, but there is a charge for that. That would allow you to watch the game, perhaps get some sleep and have an excellent Full English Breakfast to start your first full day in London, before you move to your next Hotel. Happy travels!
Marlene It might be worth checking these places http://www.london-insider.co.uk/2010/05/best-pub-bars-watch-ice-hockey-london/ Apparently the Maple Leaf was trying to get an extension to stay open but left it too late. They plan to screen the games as live the following day. Don't know about any of the others. Alan
Unless you own a Slingbox, it's unlikely you'll be able to watch the Cup internet stream as it will probably be restricted to viewers in the US & Canada. I'm sure in a city as big as London there will be at least one pub that will be open late showing the match. Check the TripAdvisor London forum or a popular hockey message board for some leads. The Canadian Embassy might be of some assistance as well:) I was in Hong Kong a couple years ago and multiple pubs were showing the cup there FWIW.
I'm coming from Luton airport. I checked the shuttles and it appears I can take the EasyBus to Victoria station. I'm going to see how the series plays out. If the Canucks can close them out in 5 games, I'll be happy. If not, I may have to reschedule my Euro vacation to mid-July and head to Vancouver instead. Sounds crazy, but I gotta be there. Thanks for all the helpful info.
Marlene, You're an incredibly dedicated Canucks fan! The Bruins arrived in Vancouver this afternoon, so Game 1 will be taking place on Wednesday afternoon. Were you planning to attend the game? Ticket prices have become astronomical, however the Canucks will be releasing an unknown quantity of new tickets tomorrow. The less expensive option would be to watch the game at one of the sports bars, or on the TV in your Hotel room. Cheers!
Yes I am. I was in tears when they finally knocked out the Blackhawks. If it goes to Game 6, my cousins and I are going to try to get tix to watch the game at the Rogers Arena. If not, we'll hit the sports bar or wherever we can find a big screen. I hear that there will be outdoor screens everywhere across the province. Regardless, the vibe in Vancouver will be electrifying and I have to be there!
From one of your responses to answers, it looks like you are taking the bus to Victoria- in which case you will not go to the major Victoria Station- but to Victoria Bus Station. Just don't want you to be surprised when you get there.
