Has anyone eaten at either the Sea Shell in Lisson Grove or Trattoria Bardigiana (aka La Bardigiana, around the corner from the Russell Square Tube) recently? I haven't been to either in yonks and thought I might like to visit them this autumn. Wondering if they're still good and worth a visit.
Sea Shell's in Lisson Grove is closed and boarded up. Edit: See my post below.
Oh, no! I was just on the Sea Shell's website last week. Well, poo. Time to come up with a Plan B, I guess.
Good starting place if you're in that area is Charlotte street
Rebecca, are you sure Sea Shell is closed? I just read a printed review dated today, and their website doesn't say anything about being closed.
Mary: Would you mind pointing me to the review? I'd like to have a look. Thanks. :-)
I am checking now. A friend of mine came back from London a year ago with photos of it boarded up. She had tried to eat there, and found it closed. Mary, you are right!! It's OPEN!! They must have been remodeling or something when my friend was there! The photos on their website look very much like the interior has been remodeled and upgraded. www.seashellrestaurant.co.uk/ Great news. This place is back on my favorites list! And the reviews on Trip Advisor say it's just as good as ever, Teresa. Here are the reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186338-d1104619-Reviews-Seashells_Of_Lisson_Grove-London_England.html Have a great trip!
You had me worried - we're planning on stopping there again this fall - can't wait!!
Yay! I was planning to take some friends there -- it'll be their first time in London and, of course, they simply must have fish'n'chips! I love it when I can stick with Plan A. :-)
This place looks great, but what high prices!! You can get fish and chips at most pubs for less than £10! In 2008 we paid £7.85 for fish and chips at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese (in the Chop Room dining room upstairs). Granted it wasn't the greatest in that they left the skin on the fish on the bottom, so I had to sit there and remove it before I could eat it!
For your other restaurant, Trattoria Bardigiana, do a Google search, or go to tripadvisor.com and search there. There are lots of reviews, and they seem to be all good.
It's not cheap, but they have a 2-course menu for £15. I figure that's not so bad for our one "nice" dinner out.
"they left the skin on the fish on the bottom," It is usual to have skin (and sometimes even a few bones) left on fish bought from traditional fish and chip shops. I just scrape the flesh off the skin as I eat.
Teresa, here is the review I mentioned http://www.english-restaurants.com/english/areas/restaurant.asp?classID=68 We're looking forward to getting there ourselves - Mary
Thanks, Mary!
