Amsterdam problem re I Amsterdam ticket purchase

I was planning to purchase the I Amsterdam ticket. However, when I was on the Van Gogh Museum site there was no place to put a museum pass # in during purchase. Therefore, I would not get the IAmsterdam ticket discount. I want to be able to skip the line and get into the Van Gogh & RijksMuseum. Does this mean I should just buy my tickets online and forget about buying the IAmsterdam ticket? If so, what should I do about transportation passes, as I plan to use transportation and not walk everywhere?

We have been to the Van Gogh Museum four times and the Rijks three. The lines weren't more than a ten to twenty minute wait. If you get there a half hour before opening you may well be near the front of the line. Also, the lines move pretty fast. The annoyance is when a tour group shows up and takes precedence over the ordinary folks. We bought a transportation pass at the Sud Station but I think you can buy one either in Schiphol at the tourist counter or in the train station.

Thanks.
Can you tell me more about the transportation pass? What types of transportation does it cover and does it go by length of time or number of uses?

The I'Amsterdam card, is a city attraction/transit pass. The pass includes free admission to the Van Gogh Museum, so there is no reason to be purchase a separate ticket via the museum's website. After you have purchased the I'Amsterdam card at one of the TI offices in the city, head to the museum and you will see a special entrance for folks who possess passes there is nothing additional you need to do. WHen I visited the museum last May the line for non-pass holder was over 90 minutes! The lines have gotten so bad the Van Gogh is closing at the end of the year so the they can move the entrance to the park behind the building so they can handle the crowds better. There will be staff outside the entrance to point you in the right direction. The I'amsterdam card also includes an unlimited city transit pass so again after you purchase the card there is nothing more you need to do; just hop on/off the trams at will. The I'amsterdam card doesn't include free admission to the Rijks Museum. You'll have to purchase a regular ticket at the museum. Lines are much shorter at the Rijks Museum, compared to the Van Gogh, so you won't wait very long. Another world-class art museum is the Hermitage, it is covered by the pass for free entry; there are usually no lines to get in. More details here: http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting/iamsterdamcard
