Staying in Amsterdam with my family (5 total) for 3 nights in August. Looked briefly into VRBO with limited success. Looking for moderately priced, safe environment. Any suggestions as to places to stay? Don't know area well, thinking about museums, zoo, and Ann Frank house. Thanks!

I saw your post and was wondering what you meant by limited success with vrbo. I have used the site several times and have always had a good experience. Where there not enough options in Amsterdam? or was the site just hard to understand?
John, hotwire.com has hotels in Amsterdam, and if you pick a 3 star or higher, I'm sure those will be reputable. In London I got Hilton, Shearton, and Crowne Plaza in the past.
I was in Amsterdam many many many years ago, and didn't find the city very difficult to travel, so I am sure if you get a decent location, you can navigate to the attractions you want to see.
We stayed at a great b&b... Maes B&B.
We had the family room and it slept 4-5. Included breakfast and snacks throughout the day! I think it was about 135 euros per night. good Location, but initially hard to find with all the one way streets etc. We were driving.
Check their website.
Thanks for the suggestions!
VRBO has revealed either pricey places, too small, or sold out for the time. I am going to look into Priceline and the B&B. Appreciate the help
