Am I planning too late?

We are traveling to London on the 24th of Sept. We have two teenage sons. I am having a difficult time finding a place to stay..any suggestions. Our base is going to be London for 4 days and then the southern part of England. I am open to differnt ideas if we have a total of 12 to 14 days to spend exploring.

I wouldn't think that you're too late. You're probably finding though that the budget deals are not as readily available. Last year I suddenly found that I would be able to go to Scotland at the last minute and was able to book rooms with two weeks notice. It took a bit more time to find the places and I did use the tourist board to find some of them. Kids are back in school at that time. It could be that there is a local even going on where you're looking. You might try posting on TripAdvisor forums which go down to the city level. Locals could make some suggestions. Pam

Just a longshot, but you could see if one of the Chelsea flats owned by VacationInParis is available. They have 2 of them and each apartment sleeps four people, for around $220 a night. They have a 3-night minimum but you could meet that. Check the website for details and call them to see about availability (it is an American company so not an overseas call. I think they are in New Jersey.)

This is the London Version of the search I used. http://www.visitlondon.com/accommodation/ They may ask for a deposit so if you find a hotel that has room, search for the hotels website and try to book it directly. This has hotel's B&B and apartments / self-catering. Pam

You're best bet is always just to call a property directly. Or, If you have access to a good travel agent, use them.

We recently stayed at the Orchard Hotel in the Bayswater area (north of Hyde Park). We were able to get a room for four people. It was very reasonably priced and included an English breakfast or choice of cereal each morning. We booked through hotels.com.

Check on Premier Travel Inn. There are several locations around London. We like at the County Hall and the Eye is right next door. Research a Family room
