My husband and I are flying to Venice soon. Our airline requires us to switch airports in London from Gatwick to Heathrow, and vice versa on the return.
I know there is a national express bus that connects the two airports, but is it necessary to book ahead as it seems to suggest? Can't you just hop on a bus? With tight connections and waiting for baggage, I would be worried about missing a scheduled bus time.
Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
There isn't really any need to pre-book a seat on the Gatwick/Heathrow shuttle. As well as National Express there are quite a few other companies who operate a shuttle betwen the two airports. Go to the information desk in the arrivals hall at Gatwick and they will tell you the next available shuttle and where to go to get on it.
Check if your airline already has provisions for this. When we flew British Airways to Krakow, we had the same situation. BA told us to go to a particular counter and get a voucher for a bus.
