Airlines NYC to London

British Air or Virgin Atlantic? Which do you fly to London and why? Thanks!

I usually fly Continental to London via Newark. But if I had to choose between the two, I would go with VA. BA has very poor labor relations with their employees and has a lot of problems with strikes; standing passengers from time to time.

Dora, we're not flying from NYC, but would definitely choose Virgin Atlantic - we were stranded by BA due to a food handlers strike in 2005 - and their procedures for handling the thousands of us stuck at Heathrow were terrible. In 2008 we flew VA and were very pleased. However, since my husband is 6'2", he finds regular economy too cramped, so this fall we're taking United Economy Plus to London. While we would have liked to stay with VA for the miles, the difference between their Premium Economy and United Economy Plus was about $400 per ticket - which will go a long way towards meals and hotels. I realize there is more than just the extra leg room between the 2 airlines' premium offerings, but the seat width or different meals are not an issue for us.

I have never had a bad experience on VA. Their premium Economy is quite a step up from Economy- separate cabin, better seats, mor space
