Afternoon Tea on a Budget

I'd love to do afternoon tea while in London, but it seems that everywhere is £30+. Does anyone know of any venues for tea that are in the £15-£25 range?

List of places for tea...we enjoyed the Orangery...rode the bus to Kensington Palace, strolled the lovely gardens, enjoyed pot of tea, cucumber sandwiches, scones, orange cake...for set price of less than £15-£25...there is an extensive menu, but we just got the basic and enjoyed it. It's not the Ritz, but it's a lovely setting and suited our tastes and budget. WIDE variety of teas to choose from. Afternoon tea hours are normally 3-6, if I remember correctly.

Also check into Fortnum and Mason where we enjoyed tea in 2004. Very traditional reservations usually needed. If all is beyond your budget consider Harrods snack cafes. They are standing only but the cost is much less and if you are near the italian cafe the chefs sing excellent opera! I was delighted to have my morning snack and coffee when the chef began singing, it was incredible and I will never forget it.

Sarah, we went to Harrods which is an experience in itself and had tea for £20 and it was all you can eat and drink, full service. Check out Harrods site as they recommend reservations (we didn't have any though) I can't remember if anyone mentioned the www.afternoontea.co.uk site, but that should help.

Hi Sarah,

I didn't have the chance to have tea in London, but I did make it to the Pump Room in Bath. They had an excellent cream tea for only 15 pounds. If you are going there, make a point to stop in the Pump Room in Bath!

Sarah,
We had high tea at Harrod's Georgian Restaurant 's Terrace(4th floor) in April of 2008. They don't care how your are dressed either. We wore jeans hiking shoes. The service was excellent and there was a piano player entertaining us the entire time. The price was one pound more than what is listed in RS 2008 book from what I remembered, but they gave us so much food. Our server even packed us 2 boxes to go--one for all the desserts and the other for sandwiches and scones. We had the leftovers for dinner and breakfast the next day.
