Aer Lingus Carry On?

I'm leaving for Eire in a few days. Thanks to this site for so much useful info.
I'm confused by Aer Lingus's carryon policy - it states "one piece per passenger".
Does anyone know if I'm to take that literally as in just a purse or briefcase?
Thanks for any clarification.

One bag means one bag..it can't be more than 22 x 18 x 10 inches, and can't weigh more than 13 lbs.

Here's what the webpage says:

* Cabin baggage is restricted to 1 piece per passenger, weighing less than 6 kgs/13 lbs in total, and must fit in the overhead bin or under your seat. Cabin baggage limits are strictly enforced.

* The maximum dimensions for a cabin bag are
56cms x 45cms x 25cms or 22in x 18in x 10in.

Max Bag Dimensions

* Passengers in breech of the baggage allowance policy will be subject to additional baggage charges at the gate or may be offloaded.

* All cabin/carry-on bags are checked and weighed at the airport. Any bags exceeding size and/or weight will be checked-in and passengers must pay a fee of €18.00 or equivalent per bag per flight for their bags when checking-in.

I couldn't get the link to work so I just copy/pasted the page to my previous posting.

Yep - thats what it states on their website. 13# isn't much - what that means is you have to check your carry-on sized luggage through as it will obviously weigh more than 13 #. Sounds like a scam to me. Guess I'll have to watch the weight of my carry-on backpack

It's not a scam, it's just their rules. True, their carryon limit is lower than most, but they aren't the only airline that allows only a single carryon per person.

This one carryon bag rule has been in effect out of Heathrow as well. There are very stringent security regulations out of the UK. Check your airline website for exact, up-to-the minute rules as to size and weight.

Maryann...the one bag rule was lifted from Heathrow months ago.

Apparently Air Lingus has tightened up in the last year. Last September, they let us take both a RS pack and a small hand held carry one (daypack) However, it clearly said we could do that on the web site and I don't see that anymore. Staying under 13 pounds was a challenge.
