Planning a trip late August, Aer Lingus is offering a pkg that includes 1 night in hotel and 5 nights in Farmhouse B&B's. We know we want to do Dublin, Dingle and Kilkenny. Three questions: anyone have experience with a similar package? And given your experience, how would you arrange your itinerary? Finally, would you recommend a Christmas Vacation trip instead?
I have used a similar package in the past, but it was through Sceptre Tours, not directly through Aer Lingus. We had no problems using the vouchers anywhere (they sent a B&B directory in advance and we made our own reservations). You won't find farmhouse B&Bs in Dublin, so you'll be staying out away from town (you'll probably want to use public transportation to get in and out of the city - traffic and parking are terrible in Dublin). We loved the B&Bs we stayed at - one five minutes from the Cliffs of Moher on a cattle farm, one near Cork on a farm where they raised and trained jumping horses, a sheep farm in Cashel, and a rural home in Newtownmountkennedy (south of Dublin).
At Christmas you will have a smaller selection of B&Bs to choose from, since some close for the season (or just for the Christmas/New Year's period). In addition, many attractions reduce their hours or days during the winter, so you may find some things you want to visit closed at that time. It also gets dark much earlier in the winter. You would probably be happier with the August dates.
