Has anyone stayed in Bristol? We need to find a B&B or reasonable hotel close to the U of Bristol campus ASAP! Thank you!

There are two universities in Bristol. One is called the University of Bristol and the other is the University of the West of England. This answer is about the University of Bristol. There is no university campus as such. The main teaching buildings, library and administration are just outside the city centre, while the halls of residence are on a number of sites at Clifton, Stoke Bishop and elsewhere. For a full list of accommodation in the Bristol area, go to www.visitbristol.co.uk. Alternatively, you could try a site like Late Rooms at www.laterooms.com. Chains such as Travelodge, Premier Inn and Holiday Inn Express all have hotels in the centre of Bristol, and these are sometimes not included on general sites. Houses in central Bristol are too expensive to be used as cheap B & B businesses, although you will find a few. Be careful of anything you find that looks too cheap to be true. You may find that it has poor facilities or is badly situated. Will you have a car? Some of the city centre hotels do not have their own car parks. Parking in Bristol is expensive. There is a hostel in the city centre right by the harbour. Details are at www.yha.org.uk/hostel/bristol.

Thank you! Yes, our daughter is studying for a semester at University of Bristol. Your info was very helpful - we found a room at the Rodney (?). Seems fairly close to her residence hall. :)

The Rodney Hotel is in Clifton, an upmarket residential and commercial area. There are frequent buses to the city centre, and lots of places locally to walk and explore. Clifton has many good eating places. There are pubs which serve good food, mid-market chains like Pizza Express, Strada and Cote, specialist places like Fishers (a fish restaurant) and a good selection of Italian, Indian and Chinese. If the weather is fine, I can recommend lunch on the terrace at the Avon Gorge Hotel, with its stunning views of the Suspension Bridge. Hope your visit goes well.
