Accomodation near Tower of London

Hello, We will be attending the Key Ceremony at the Tower of London in June. It ends at 9:30pm. Can anyone recommend a hotel or B&B (reasonably priced hopefully) that would be close enough that we could walk to it safely after the event? Thank you for your help! (I will be walking with my 12 year old son)

Tower Hill tube stop is close by the Tower. If you've already booked into a hotel, just use the London underground to get back to your hotel. Premier Travel Inn has a hotel nearby if you really need a hotel. Your son will likely enjoy a tour of the Tower during the daytime;my sons loved all the armor & swords! The Ceremony of the Keys is terrific. I've found London incredibly safe & walk a lot on my own ~ just use the same common sense as you would anywhere else.
Have fun!

Most of London is pretty safe; in the general area of the Tower later at night is likely to be pretty deserted as you tend towards the Square Mile - the City. Also, as you tend eastwards from there it tends to be more deprived - the borough of Tower Hamlets has some of the most deprived areas in the city but also some very nice new developments. It is worth looking carefully at potential places you might want to stay. Can I agree with the previous poster that the Tower is very easy to reach by either bus or Underground (Circle and District Lines) and Docklands Light Railway. In June it is likely that there will still be daylight or twilight at 9:30pm.

Thank you both for the help! I feel better about finding accomodations a bit farther way. All the best, Sheri

Sheri, Nigel's given you excellent advice and information. Just a word about my experience. I've visited London several times, both on solo trips and traveling with a (female) friend. I've never felt unsafe in Central London, including on public transportation (buses and the Tube) at 9:30 pm. That includes the times when I was alone. And also, I'd not want to stay near the Tower, for the reasons cited by Nigel. There are lots of great areas to choose from, including but not limited to the area around Victoria Station, the Bloomsbury area (small hotels along Gower St.), and the S. Kensington/Earl's Court area. Have a fun trip!

We stayed clear out in Marleybone and had no trouble catching the tube and then walking a few blocks to the ceremony. It was in a downpour but still fascinating to be there. Stay where you want and don't worry about staying near the Tower.
