Has anyone on this board ever stayed at this hotel? I know it gets good reviews on trip advisor, but I'm not sure why Rick doesn't recommend it, and wondering if any ETBD fans have any experience with this place.
I stayed there several years ago on a trip with my mom. We stayed in March--which was not too busy. They gave us a triple on the top floor, which was nice.
I really liked it. The breakfast was good, the room was spotless and the bathrooms were well kept (we did not have a private bath). The location was great too--very close to a tube station and very close to the British Museum. There were lots of nice stores and restaurants close by--including a huge Dillon's bookstore (which seems to be the equivalent to a Borders in the U.S.). I would definitely go back.
The only drawbacks--there was no elevator, if that's an issue. We had to walk up 4 flights of stairs (or maybe it was 3?). We built up strong legs by the end of our trip! Also, I found the front desk staff to be rather indifferent, but we did not spend time with them. It was only on check in and check out. The kitchen staff was nice, however.
The Lonely Planet London guidebook gives it a very high rating.
