a short farm stay

We will be in London for 2 weeks in August with two teenagers and we are looking for a short farm stay...don't want to rent a car but would like to be able to take a train? Perhaps a stay of 2 nights would be good. Any suggestions?

Thanks much

Mollie, I don't know how you can get from London to a farm stay, but something you might consider: York is a fantastic city you shouldn't miss. If you took the train to York, you could take the shuttle that runs frequently from the city to outlying villages. How you get from the village to the farm, I don't know, unless it was close enough to walk. But check out the York area. Once you're out of the city, it's very much sheep country. Choose a village and then google for tourist information there.

If you go to Paddington Station you can get a ticket to Pewsey in Wiltshire.

Pewsey is a flyspeck between Reading and Bath. It's surrounded by fantastic farmland. Just call in at the nearest pub 'The Grehound' and they'll direct you to any one of a number of B&Bs that are surrounded by working farms.

My only warning is that although Pewsey is friendly and beautiful, like everywhere else on Salisury Plain, it's isolated.

Great suggestions from Judy & Al; my two cents, 90 minutes to Bath by train with lots to see and do. Check out Trip Advisor for the Plaine B&B, in the village of Norton St. Philip, just outside Bath (5-6 miles) and served by regular bus service to Bath at least every hour. Surrounded by farmland, across the street from the George Inn; some say the oldest continuously run pub/inn in England. Who knows, but it was a coaching inn in the days of highwaymen and still looks like it; takes you back in time.
