Need a a place to stay in Glasgow for one night upon our arrival in Scotland. Can anyone tell me what is the best and safest area to stay in town. Also would like to be near pubs and or cares. Thanks!
I (solo female) stayed here back in 2004: http://www.thevictorian.co.uk/ What is a "cares"? I imagine you'd have a hard time finding an area in Glasgow that didn't have a pub. Or two...
The Vistorian House on Renfrew Street is the hotel we have stayed in numerous times. Its located a few yards fromm the Glasgow School of Art, about a ten minute walk from Buchanan Station (busses), a longer walk to Queen Street Station (train), and half an hour walk from Central Station. Its a next street away from Sachiehall Street, a major pedestrian shopping street. Lauder's is there, an old fashioned bar that you will enjoy. http://www.thevictorian.co.uk/ Excellent breakfast included, and good help getting a taxi or private hire, which we always use. The Rough Guide to Scotland seems to be the best help and we have used it until its falling apart.
I too wonder what is "cares"....
Since she said it with pubs, I think she meant pubs and cafes.
I stayed at the Premier Inn near George Square and it worked really well. It was walkable from the train station and you can take a bus to the train station from the airport very easily. I've also stayed in the west end, but if you are only there for one night I would stay downtown. Pam
Thanks everyone. Yes, I did mean cafe.
