We are going to be in Amsterdam for a few days in mid May. We have Rick's book, but would like some personal recommendations of good places to stay there.
Thanks.
i REALLY enjoyed the Hotel Orlando - small like a B&B but some conveniences of a hotel like being able to use credit cards. Huge rooms, nice bathroom, free ethernet, great breakfast (fresh-squeezed orange juice!).. service is fine, we got help when we needed it but I wouldn't call the service overly warm, but the price was right (100 euros for a double though i think the price is a bit more). But for me the best thing was the location - really close to the center (couple blocks from Rembrandtplein and a half block from the Tram #4 to Dam Square and the station) but on a really quiet part of the Prinsengracht in a canal house (an experience important to me). I went to 10 cities on my trip and had among the hardest time finding a place in Amsterdam but I really was pleased with this one in the end.
Tawana -
We were in Amsterdam 2 years ago and stayed at the Hotel Prinsenhof because we couldn't get reservations at many of the Rick recommendations. We loved the Prinsenhof - great location. We could walk everywhere from there, and the view and accommodations were great. And - best of all - it is really reasonably priced at under $100 a night! There are a lot of stairs, but that's standard in Amsterdam. I would really recommend this place.
