I'm a college student studying in Oxford for the summer and I was thinking about going over to Ireland for a weekend (hopefully get there friday night and not have to come back until sunday night/monday morning). I'm not entirely sure what to do while I'm there. I would like to see a nice castle, have some time to walk around a town and get a feel of it, and still have time to enjoy a good pub. Where would you suggest going? I was thinking Dublin, but I'm afraid the big city would be too much for a weekend and I'd like to get a feel for what the rest of Ireland is like. Thanks so much!

We just returned from 9 days in Ireland and loved it. I think Kenmare may fit the bill. It's 20km from Kerry Airport and at the beginning, or end, of the Ring of Kerry. You could try to stay at Virginia's Guesthouse which is right downtown where the pubs are plentiful with live music frequently.
