We are planning to visit Poland May>June 2013. Planning to visit Egnacebo (that's how it's spelled on Grandfathers Russian passport. think it's near Warsaw. Has anyone heard of this place, been there. What are your suggestions for travelling in Poland. We will be travelling from Lisbon Portugal to Poland. thanks for any tips/suggestions. B&B NC

Hello Brenda, I think that correct spelling of this town is Gniezno which is about 170 miles west of Warsaw. Try to google.pl Egnacebo and there is no such a town or village there. Not a common polish name of town, must be misspelled. Try to go to www.gniezno.eu to find out more, both English and Polish city website. Never been in Gniezno because I was born in Tarnow, southern part of Poland but I guess must be nice place to visit. It used to be first settlers town in Poland (as per history books hehe). By the way I love Carolinas North and South hehe been in Wilmington many many times. Good Luck on your next travel, be safe Sincerely,
Richard

Richard.. this is Bill Yarish, husband of Brenda who you responded to. She was mistaken about the name we were looking for. It is Jednaczewo, and I have found the town located near Lomza. Warsaw is about 80 miles south west. We are still looking for general travel information from Lisbon, as well as trains buses hotels money etc. Thanks for your help. Bill

I went to Poland a few years back with my dad in search of his parents' birthplace. We ended up hiring a driver from our hotel in Warsaw to drive us to the village, which was an hour out of town. The cost was reasonable compared to the cost of renting a car, not to mention the hassle. A driver can also serve as an interpreter if need be. In the large city hotels and restaurants English was commonly spoken. In the countryside, not do much.
By the way, it ended up being an incredible experience because we found my dad's first cousin. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info Gerard. We just had a 'breakthru' on Ancestry & looks like we might locate the village of Bills G'father before we get there. I like the idea of hiring a driver. Brenda
