7 nights/Jameson Distillery

Okay, now that we've decided to go in the Spring, we've hit the question of hat the best places to see are in our 7 nights on the Emerald Isle. Any thoughts? Also, we were thinking of hitting the Jameson Distillery in Dublin - is this worth it?

Hi Kylee, Personally I would skip the tour. It is no longer an operating distillery so you do not see any of the whisky making process only simulation of what was actually done.
They have a stuffed cat that was the mouser for the distillery and when it died the employees had it mounted and put back in the building. To me that was the highlight of the tour. I know many people do enjoy it though.

If you want to see a Jameson distillery, there is an operating one in Midleton, near Cobh. When we were last there, the tour was about 8 euro, I believe, which seemed pricey to me, but there was a "gourmet" whiskey tasting at the end.

I checked Midleton as well, but it seems they're only open for touring between Oct 1 and Feb 28th... Unless I'm reading it incorrectly on their website.

As for the Dublin tour, I found it quite fun. Make sure when ther guide asks for volunteers that you quickly raise your hand. The tasting at the end is quite good. It seemed the day we were there that they more quickly chose older guys (those who could afford good whiskey).

The Midleton tour is a good one. Just have a bite to eat in the restaurant (reasonable prices) and let the whisky soak in.

With that little time I would most definitely skip the tour of that and Guinness.

I would bee line over to the rings (Kerry and Dingle) and spend my time there. Top sight of all (IMO) is Skellig Michael but you must be in good shape to do it. It is also a roll of the dice if the boat even goes out but well worth the forty Euro. (Google image it)

Kilkenny Castle and Muckross House/National Park are good stops as well.

While in Dingle make it a point to go to Dick Mack's and see the band Dreams of Freedom if you get the chance. Great vocalist.
