How difficult (and time consuming) is it to get from London out to Bletchley Park? The whole Enigma story facinates me, and as an IT professional, I'd like to see the rebuilt "Colossus" as well as the "Bombes".
Blechtley Park (and the National Museum of Computing) are in Bletchley which is a part of Milton Keynes. Bletchley has it's own railway station. The connection to London is run by London Midland. Travel time is approx. 45 minutes for each trip from London Euston station. There are several trains every hour. Opening times differ a lot, so please always check ahead on the museum's website. Opening times usually 1-5 pm. Works fantastic with the off peak fare for the train trip (14 pounds for the same day return ticket). Please check the websites. And spare a thought for Alan Turing - one of the greatest war heroes of the allied forces (probably of the same caliber as Konev or Patton or Montgomery), and how he got paid for all those heroics.
Thanks, Michael. Yes, Alan Turing most certainly got a "raw deal". It's a sad story. - Bruce
We will be going to Bletchley in September; however, we will be driving from Windsor. Not a bad drive from there. We're very anxious to see this place!
We went to Bletchley Park last September--made the mistake of taking the train to Milton Keys instead of "Bletchley". Great place to visit--if the weather is nice--the grounds are super just to stroll around on your own. There also is a nice guided tour--and several original buildings to visit!!
