Helsinki

We will have 3 days in Finland after flying into Helsinki and are looking for suggestions on where to stay that might be in close proximity to Lutheran Cathedral and Sibelius sites. Does not need to be necessarily cheap but not outrageous, Thanks susan

Most anything in central Helsinki will be close to the cathedral. The city is not that big. If your trip is in the summer, try some of the better rated hotels on tripadvisor. You can get some steep discounts by booking ahead (no refunds or changes).

I stayed in the Omena Hotel in Helsinki. It's apart of the Apple hotel chain. It's cheap, but there's no reception desk. They give you a pin number that you punch in to open the door and then you have another pin for your room. It's really basic, but the hotel was close to everything the harbor, market, Esplanade, Lutheran church, Church in the Rock....we took a bus/trolley to the Sibelius site (make sure you walk toward the water after you see the sculpture. There's a small red house/building that's also a cafe. Very tasty cinnamon rolls and coffee with tables on the water). The Omena hotel we stayed at is on Lönnrotinkatu 13. The other hotel is only a couple of blocks north of there. If you go during September, keep your eyes peeled for the Oktoberfest. Kinda pricey, but you'll never forget the "german" band wearing liederhosen (sp?) and singing "Sweet Home Alabama" in Finnish. Helsinki is a great town. Have lots of fun there! Brooke
