While in Paris we had THE BEST apartment with a balcony that enabled us to watch Eifel twinkle at night. Now we are looking for the same experience in London except we would love to be staring at the Parliment building while we top off a great bottle of red. Does anyone have a suggestion based on first-hand knowledge, or word of mouth? (By the way, if you want the name of the Paris place, let us know.)
There's a Marriott and, I believe, a Premier Inn, across Westminster Bridge from Westminster Palace (parliament). Probably a few other hotels up and down the river along there. Several blocks south, the City Inn Westminster sits a couple of blocks off the Thames and advertises river view rooms. Some of those might offer a glimpse of parliament. Bear in mind that those buildings are not especially tall, even by London standards. A nice view of the London Eye is probably more attainable.
The Marriott County Hall which JC refers to has some rooms on the Thames side with a view of Parliament. No balconies though. The Premier Inn is also in the County Hall, but none of their rooms have a Thames view.
