Our group - me, sister-in -law and our 2 16 year old daughters have 5 days in June '09 in England before we join a tour group. Alton Towers is a must, and are considering Stone Henge on the way to Bath, 2 nights in Bath, then on to Stoke by Trent a day trip to Liverpool, then hitting Stratford on the way back to London a day before we join our tour. We will have a car. Anyone have special highlights to our agenda or suggested deviations?
We can give more useful replies if you can tell us what places are included in your tour?
London, Paris and the Alps, ending in Munich. We're doing another 6 days on the end of the tour for Prague and Berlin.
A bit of time for the Peak District.
Alton towers is o the edge of the national park. You could head north via Longnor(good cake and tea shop in the square), then minor moorland roads to the Mermaid above Thorncliffe. Its the 6th? highest pub in england with a legend attached.Good food too.Don't have map in front of me but maybe.Maybe take in Buxton too, another spa town with opera house. Longnor-A515-Buxton, A53 (Axe Edge) road),Mermaid.
Where does you tour run to?
Stoke isn't a beauty, maybe consider Chester
Thanks. I'll check into Chester. I chose Stoke on Trent because of it's proximity to Alton Towers, and this option will add about an hour to get there, but that's ok. I'm looking for better options vs. drive time. Considerations include where we go first considering jet lag, avoiding weekend at the towers. Liverpool on the agenda for the Beatles factor - of course!
