Looking for info on places to stay for 3/4 days in May - must be reasonable in good touring areas by foot
I would repost this under "to the West" for better responses.
All those cities are large and not easily explored solely by foot (note my bad pun?). Florence is smaller, so doable by foot if you like walking. Opt for a place near public transport and in the city center, so you can walk to some areas, but then train to further places. Paris and Rome have good metro systems and Florence just opened their new tram.
Paris: consider the Marais area
Rome: Spanish Steps is convenient, so is the Campo de Fiori area.
Agree - "to the West" is the place to post this. In Paris, I am razy for l'Hotel Hameau, 48 Ru de Passy. It is very reasonale and extremely friendly and you start every day with a lovely stroll down towards Trocadero, with a view of the Eiffel Tower peeping out from behind the rooftops at you. From the Passy neighborhood you can walk pretty much anywhere - Paris is VERY walkable- but you won't be in a "touristy" area, so you'll really get the feeling of a Paris neighborhood. Just my two cents' worth!
