Arrived in London last Friday 10AM. Rode the Heathrow Express to Paddington (33 pounds for 2), then a cab to our hotel. Stayed at Vancouver Studios in Bayswater, and found it to be fine. I would have preferred a bit larger room, but we quickly got used to the small space. It was certainly adequate. Local restaurants & pubs served wonderful food. We ate at the Prince Edward pub Friday night (bangers & mash), fish & Chips at "Mr. Fish" on Saturday night, and an excellent Thai place on Queensway on Sunday night. Lunches were wherever we happened to be at lunchtime. The cafe at the Tower of London was expensive, but the food was excellent. Our room at Vancouver Studios had a kitchenette, so we ate breakfast in the room each day, using things we bought at the Tessco on Queensway.
All in all, we found London to be very enjoyable. We left for Paris on the Eurostar on Monday, the 21st.
We are already looking forward to next year's trip.
I did 2 1/2 days in London less than 2 weeks ago. Stayed at Premier Inn/King's Cross. I like this chain of hotels, very nice, reasonable. Opted for their English Breakfast, it was pretty good and a good way to start the day. Ate at Cafe in the Crypt in St. Martin & Fields church for the 2nd time. It was still nice. Ate there 1st time in 2001.
Took some expensive cab rides the first day, particularly coming back from the play, Billy Elliot, but we took the bus the rest of the time and it worked out well. Also toured the state rooms and garden of Buckingham Palace, took the audio tour of Westminster Abbey, and spent lots of time on the hop-on-hop-off bus. Saw a lot in our short time there. Also took the Eurostar train out of St. Pancras which was a block from our hotel. Very easy.
